“How could this happen?” Emily whispered, her voice barely a breath. The revelation hit her like a physical blow. The diary, her most private space, was now accessible to the masses. A sense of overwhelming dread settled over her, a heavy shroud.

She’d spent the morning in bed, staring at the ceiling, paralyzed by disbelief and mounting horror. Her muscles ached, her head throbbed. She felt like she'd run a marathon, and the finish line was nowhere in sight.

She finally forced herself to shower, but the water couldn't wash away the feeling of exposure. Even a familiar routine felt alien. She felt utterly and completely spent.
